If you have been told that you have 20/20 eyesight, that doesn’t actually tell you how your eyes are functioning. There are generally two parts in an eye examination – Vision and Eye Health.

Vision involves much more than visual acuity. Getting 6/6 or 20/20 is not sufficient in the opinion of Behavioural and Developmental Optometrists. Vision encompasses the processing of visual information and the brain’s interpretation of what is being perceived (visual perception).

Hence, it is critical to get information on how the eyes actually function to achieve binocularity, accurate focusing, and track. These visual skills (and more) are assessed as part of a detailed functional vision assessment.
