Dec 2023: IGARD Pte Ltd receives the Singapore SME 500 Award 2023 from the Association of Trade and Commerce Singapore. Receiving the SME 500 trophy is Ms Carol Lee, a Senior Healthcare Administrator and Senior Manager of the clinic. Established since 2004, IGARD has a focus on paediatric optometry, vision therapy and orthokeratology treatment. In 2008, they became the first clinic in Singapore to receive the full accreditation in Behavioural Optometry from the UK. They also received the Best Eye Clinic (Gold Medal) in 2023. The clinic is headed by Dr Yap Tiong Peng, Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and Fellow of the Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists.
2023 WCO Certification in Advocacy and Leadership: We are happy to share that Dr Yap Tiong Peng is the first Singaporean to complete the World Council of Optometry (WCO) certification program on Advocacy and Leadership. Dr Yap said, “I am humbled to be selected by the World Council of Optometry to attend the advocacy and leadership program. It is an 3-month intensive course which prepares future leaders to lead the profession through advocacy and public health initiatives; it entails a series of lectures, assignments and reading materials from Indiana University in the United States, and I had to complete a capstone project at the end of the course. This year, I also attended the WCO annual meeting in Melbourne, Australia. I am very grateful to the WCO for this learning opportunity.”

This award is significant as it affirms the business standards, qualities and performance. The Singapore SME 500 Award is one of Singapore’s highly regarded business accolade that recognises local enterprises for its business qualities, excellence and capabilities. The assessment is conducted by the Association of Trade & Commerce (Singapore) and part of the process includes evaluating enterprises in its quantitative and qualitative aspects, including the ability to further develop the business and scale its market. Established since 2004, IGARD Pte Ltd is Singapore’s most recognisable brand for vision therapy and neuro-visual rehabilitation, as it has proven to consistently uphold the highest clinical standards and practices. Many people may not know that the name “IGARD” originally stand for “Improving and Guarding Against Reading Difficulties”, as the main goal of IGARD is to improve the quality-of-life of adults and children who are suffering from vision problems that are hindering reading. However, a full fledged paediatric vision clinic is established in 2006. Besides focusing on vision therapy, there are a wide range of clinical services that has become very popular with patients, including the testing of visual processing disorders, complex ophthalmic prescriptions, orthokeratology treatments and children myopia control. Headed by Dr Yap Tiong Peng, the clinic utilises evidence based techniques and it is best known for childhood myopia interventions and the treatment of vision problems associated with learning challenges, childhood developmental issues and special needs. This is official! IGARD is voted the Best Eye Specialist Award (Gold Medal). Established since 2004 and run by Dr Yap & Associates, IGARD is the first in Singapore to receive full accreditation in Behavioural Optometry and the first in Singapore to receive US board certification in Vision Therapy.
